Missed the minion craze at McDonalds last month or simply just want to expand your minion collection? Here is your chance to make your own minion army! This pattern only require simple crochet techniques and skills, a really quick project for all minion lovers. Lil’ Minion is approximately 10cm tall, a perfect size to make into a keychain or a cute decoration at home. Materials:
- Yarn(s) - Yellow, Blue, Black and Grey 8ply Acrylic Yarn.
- Crochet Hooks - Size 3.0mm and 3.5mm
- Yarn Needle
- Tapestry Needle
- White Tapestry Thread
- Fiberfill
- Small about of white felt.
- 1 or 2 safety eye(s) (Alternative: you can use black felt as safety eyes).
- Fabric Glue.
- Stitch Marker or Safety Pin
Note:
- This pattern works in continuous rounds (instead of joined rounds).
- The goggle strap and jumper strap work in Rows.
Abbreviation:
- MR - Magic Ring
- sc - Single Crochet
- 2 sc in next sc - Increase
- dec 1 - Decrease
- Ch - Chain
- * * - Repeat Step
- F/O - Fasten Off
Body:
Yellow Yarn, 3.0mm Hook.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 8 in MR. (8)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Rnd 3: *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (24)
Rnd 4: *sc 2, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (32)
Rnd 5-20: sc around. (32)
Rnd 21: *dec 1, sc 2*, repeat around. (24)
Start stuffing with fiberfill.
Rnd 22: *dec 1, sc 1*, repeat around. (16)
Add on fiberfill to stuff the entire body.
Rnd 23: *dec 1*, repeat around. (8)
F/O and leave long end and sew up the hole.
Jumper (Overall):
Blue Yarn, 3.5mm Hook.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 8 in MR. (8)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Rnd 3: *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (24)
Rnd 4: *sc 2, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (32)
Rnd 5-10: sc around. (32)
Start of jumper’s front piece.
Row 11: sc 8, ch 1 and turn. (8)
Row 12-14: sc 8, ch 1 and turn. (8)
Start of jumper strap.
Ch approximately 15 to 16 stitches. F/O and cut off the yarn.
Start of jumper’s back piece.
Count 8 stitches from jumper’s front piece and start Row 11.
Row 11: sc 8, ch 1 and turn. (8)
Row 12-14: sc 8, ch 1 and turn. (8)
Start of jumper strap.
Ch approximately 15 to 16 stitches. F/O and cut off the yarn.
Refer to picture above: Secure the front strap to top of jumper’s back piece and secure the back strap to jumper’s front piece.
Arms: (make 2)
Yellow and Black Yarn, 3.0mm Hook.
Starting with Black Yarn.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: sc around. (6)
Change to Yellow Yarn.
Rnd 3-11: sc around. (6)
Stuff fiberfill to arms.
F/O and leave a long end to sew to the body.
Legs: (make 2)
Blue and Black Yarn, 3.5mm Hook.
Starting with Black Yarn.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: sc 5, 2 sc in next sc. (7)
Rnd 3: sc around. (7)
Change to Blue Yarn.
Rnd 4-5: sc around. (7)
Stuff fiberfill to legs.
F/O and leave a long end to sew to the bottom of the jumper.
Google: (this size is for 1-eye minion)
Grey Yarn, 3.0mm Hook.
Ch 18. - sc to 1st ch.
Rnd 1: sc around. (18)
F/O and weave in the remaining yarn to the goggle.
Strap of Goggle:
Black Yarn, 3.0mm Hook.
Ch approximately 30 to 36 stitches.
Put around the head with the goggle on and make sure the strap fully reach both ends of the goggle.
Ch 1 and turn.
Row 1: sc across.
F/O and weave in the remaining yarn to the strap.
Assembly of Goggle: (Refer to pictures above)
- Put a small piece of white felt onto the goggle. Cut a circle using the goggle as the gauge.
- Using some fabric glue, paste the safety eye onto the side of the white felt.
- Paste the completed eye onto the minion’s face.
- Using tapestry needle and thread, sew the grey goggle onto the face.
- Then sew the black goggle strap across the head.
Assembling of the other parts of the body:
- Sew the arms to each side of the minion’s body.
- Sew the legs to the bottom of the jumper.
- Slip-on the jumper to minion’s body. (optional: you can sew on the jumper to the body.)
And Congratulations, you’ve completed your Lil’ one-eye Minion!

Grey Yarn, 3.0mm Hook.
Ch 12. - sc to 1st ch.
Rnd 1: sc around. (12)
Start of the other side of the goggle.
Ch 12. - sc to 1st ch.
Rnd 1: sc around. (12)
F/O and weave in the remaining yarn to the goggle.
Strap of Goggle:
Black Yarn, 3.0mm Hook.
Ch approximately 28 to 30 stitches.
Put around the head with the goggle on and make sure the strap fully reach both ends of the goggle.
Ch 1 and turn.
Row 1: sc across.
F/O and weave in the remaining yarn to the strap.
